Male: June 29, 2021 – (TDI): The Government of Pakistan signed an agreement today promising the grant of MVR 2,972,205 (USD 192,750) to the Government of the Maldives for the implementation of the “Geveshi Gulhun campaign” at the ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maldives. The “Geveshi Gulhun Campaign” is a nationwide campaign initiated by the Maldives’ Ministry of Gender, Family, and Social Services for curbing sexual and domestic violence and boosting women’s empowerment in the state.
This gift was received warmly by the government of Maldives. Abdullah Shahid, the Foreign Minister of Maldives, took to Twitter where he expressed his gratification as he ‘welcomed the generous donation’ made by Pakistan. He also highlighted that ‘combating domestic and gender-based violence is a key priority of the Government of Maldives’.
The Pakistani embassy in the Maldives reiterated its intentions of helping President Ibrahim Mohammad Solih in achieving Maldives’ “key priority areas”. It also professed the desire to cement cordial relations in all fields between the two states. In addition, it professed its desire to participate further in such collective endeavors which would be beneficial for the people of Maldives.
