# Pakistan’s Big Diplomatic Achievement

15 June 2021- Islamabad(TDI): Pakistan was elected as a regular member of the International Labour Organization’s governing council on Monday (ILO). At the 109th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva, elections were held virtually. According to a press release from the Foreign Office, Pakistan is one of the four newly chosen Regular members of the Asia-Pacific Group (ASPAG) for the year 2021-2024. The international community has placed faith in Pakistan’s strong leadership credentials, as seen by this election result. Pakistan joins the governing body at a critical juncture in the World of Work.

According to the spokesperson, increased international cooperation, dialogue, and assistance are required to mitigate the socio-economic repercussions of the COVID-19 epidemic and restore economic growth. Pakistan shall collaborate with other members of the body and other stakeholders to achieve human-centered economic recovery, increased productive capacity, and job creation. The primary areas of focus will be the promotion of social justice and social protection, driven by the government’s people-oriented vision, it was said.

The ILO’s governing board, made up of 56 regular members, is the organization’s highest policy and decision-making body, with 28 governments, 14 employers, and 14 workers. Since joining the ILO in 1947, Pakistan has been a regular member of the organization’s executive arm for seven terms.
