Islamabad (TDI): A senior delegation from Pakistan’s Senate, led by Deputy Chairman Syedaal Khan, will undertake an official visit to the United States from January 20 to 25, 2026, the Senate Secretariat announced on Tuesday.

The visit comes amid a gradual improvement in Pakistan-US relations over the past year. Describing the trip as a “historic milestone,” the Secretariat said it marked the start of a new phase in parliamentary engagement between the two countries and signaled a shift toward more structured, institution-to-institution cooperation.

The visit follows renewed diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Washington throughout 2025, driven by changing regional dynamics and broader strategic realignments in South Asia and the Middle East.

According to the Secretariat, the delegation will travel under the auspices of the Pakistan Policy Institute USA. For the first time, the program will formally include the United States–Pakistan Inter-Parliamentary Group, a development the Secretariat described as a significant breakthrough in parliamentary diplomacy.

“This reflects a shared commitment to strengthening democratic institutions through direct interaction between elected legislatures,” the statement said.

The Secretariat noted that the visit is taking place at a critical moment of regional and global change and will focus on clearly defined strategic goals. Foremost among these is the creation of a permanent institutional framework for sustained dialogue between the US Congress and Pakistan’s Senate.

The delegation aims to promote democratic norms, exchange legislative experience, strengthen parliamentary oversight and expand cooperation beyond traditional government-to-government channels, the statement added.

Engagement with the Pakistani-American community will also be a key part of the program, allowing the delegation to share Pakistan’s parliamentary perspective on regional and international developments, while exploring opportunities for cooperation in science, culture and public policy, according to The Express Tribune.

The Secretariat highlighted that in the 77-year history of Pakistan-US relations, no Pakistani parliamentary delegation has previously held formal engagements at the Rayburn House Office Building under the auspices of the US Congress.

The visit will also include a press conference and media interactions at the National Press Club, along with community and policy-focused receptions in New Jersey.

Officials said the trip is expected to pave the way for regular parliamentary exchanges, deeper legislative collaboration and a durable institutional partnership between Pakistan and the United States, based on mutual respect, democratic values and long-term strategic engagement.
