Pakistani UN Envoy emphasizes role of CPEC

New York, 23 October 2021 (TDI): Pakistani Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Muhammad Akram emphasized China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He highlighted the role of CPEC in providing prosperity and sustainable development in the region.

He addressed the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) and the UN Global Sustainable Transport Conference. During his address, he highlighted the importance of reviving the Silk Road to connect the region for the collective good.
Role of CPEC
He also underscored the predictable role of CPEC that will lead the entire region of South Asia to prosperity and development. CPEC is planned to enhance the economy of Pakistan. The regional states that are landlocked such as the Central Asian States and Afghanistan can also get benefit from this project.
He also appreciated the Chinese plan for the development of ecological civilization. The Ambassador said that the developed countries should follow the path of China to encourage developing countries to meet the climate goals.
Opportunities in Pakistan
Furthermore, Pakistan has launched several infrastructure projects for connecting the region. This will provide trade and transport opportunities to the region. The project will help to boost the economy of the region especially Pakistan.
CPEC is a rail and road connecting project which will link Pakistani port Gwadar with the Chinese city of Kashgar. It will also enable the Central Asian states to use this route for trade purposes. This historical project will benefit the entire region.
CPEC: A Game-changer
The strategic thinkers consider CPEC as a game-changer which can help in the conflict transformation of Afghanistan. The Chinese Permanent Mission to China, Convention on Biological Diversity Secretariat, and the UN Department of Economics and Social Affairs co-hosted the conference in the United Nations.
