Islamabad, 02 Sept 2021 (TDI): Pakistani High Commissioner in Canada Ameer Khurram Rathore assured the Canadian government that Pakistan will help evacuate Canada-bound Afghans from Afghanistan and assist them to escape into Pakistan by road. Pakistan has so far evacuated 9 Canadians from Kabul according to Pakistan’s Embassy in Vancouver.

Canadian Foreign Minister Marc Garneau had already cautioned earlier that Canada might not be able to meet the evacuation deadline of 31st August. Canada is currently engaged in evacuating the former Afghan interpreters and their families who worked with Canada during the 20 years of war.
The Foreign Minister of Canada also video called Foreign Minister Qureshi yesterday, this is the third call in a row. Foreign Minister Garneau expressed his gratitude to Pakistan for helping in evacuation efforts and informed that Canada has given 50 Million Canadian dollars as humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. Whereas, Foreign Minister Qureshi while reassuring Pakistan’s continued support to Canada called on the government of Canada to relax the visa protocols especially for Pakistani Students.
It is important to note that Canada in 2014 formally withdrew its military from Afghanistan. However, it was sent back recently to help out in evacuation efforts from Kabul.
