# Pakistan Warns Against Inaction as Sudan’s El Fasher Falls to RSF

**United Nations (TDI):** As the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) seized control of El Fasher, the capital of Sudan’s North Darfur region, Pakistan called on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to act decisively to end the deepening crisis, protect civilians, and push for an immediate ceasefire.

Speaking at an emergency UNSC session on Thursday, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said the people of Sudan had “endured unimaginable suffering for far too long” and urged the Council not to remain a “passive spectator while innocent civilians are massacred, hospitals are bombed, and aid workers are targeted with impunity.”

He strongly condemned the RSF’s violent takeover of El Fasher and the killings of hundreds of patients and medical workers at the Saudi Maternity Hospital, describing the atrocities as “heinous acts that must stop immediately.” “The perpetrators and their sponsors must be held fully accountable,” the envoy asserted.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar highlighted that Sudan’s tragedy has been compounded by external interference and geopolitical rivalries, stressing that the Council’s lack of unified support for Sudan’s legitimate government had emboldened armed groups and prolonged the conflict.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, rejecting any attempts to create “parallel governance structures” that undermine state institutions.

“It is imperative that the international community engage constructively with Sudanese authorities to sustain governance, ensure humanitarian access, and preserve national unity,” he said.

The ambassador noted positive political developments in Sudan, including the appointment of a new prime minister and a technocratic cabinet, and called for international backing for the transitional roadmap.

“There is no military solution to this conflict. The guns must fall silent, and external interference must stop,” he added, urging a Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned peace process in line with the Jeddah Declaration.
