Pakistan Condemns Drone Attack on Chinese Workers in Tajikistan

Islamabad (TDI): The Foreign Office (FO) has strongly condemned the recent attack that resulted in the deaths of three Chinese nationals in Tajikistan, emphasizing that the use of armed drones highlights the serious threat emanating from Afghanistan and the audacity of those responsible.

According to Tajik authorities, the assault took place near the Afghan border on Thursday, targeting workers from a Chinese company in the country’s southern region. The attackers reportedly used both firearms and a drone armed with grenades, killing three Chinese employees. Dushanbe has not officially identified the perpetrators.

In response, Pakistan expressed its condolences and solidarity with both China and Tajikistan over the tragic incident. The FO described the attack as “cowardly” and warned that such incidents underline the grave danger posed by militant elements operating from Afghan soil.

“Having experienced repeated terrorist attacks originating from Afghanistan, Pakistan fully empathizes with the grief of our Chinese friends and Tajik partners,” the statement read.

The FO stressed that Afghan territory must not serve as a base for terrorism against neighboring countries or the wider international community. It called for concrete and verifiable measures against perpetrators, their facilitators, and financiers to curb this growing threat.

Pakistan also reiterated its commitment to working with China, Tajikistan, and other regional partners to strengthen peace, security, and stability in the shared region.

Bilateral relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have faced tension, primarily over the presence of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Afghan soil. Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Afghan authorities to take action against cross-border terrorism.
