Islamabad (TDI): Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Senator Dr Musadik Malik, received Canadian High Commissioner Tarik Ali Khan on Thursday to review ongoing cooperation and explore new areas of partnership between the two countries.
At the outset, the Canadian envoy conveyed his government’s condolences over the recent attack on Cadet College Wana in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, expressing hope for lasting peace in the region. He also thanked Dr Malik for helping facilitate the import of Canadian canola oil into Pakistan.
According to an official statement, the conversation centred on broadening collaboration in several shared priority areas, including community development, climate-resilient agriculture, and sustainable economic growth.
The high commissioner highlighted that the Canadian Commercial Commission could further support Pakistan by providing Canadian goods and services through government-to-government arrangements.

He noted that Canada has been advancing new technologies in climate-adaptive farming and showed interest in partnering with Pakistan to encourage innovation and the exchange of modern agricultural practices.
Dr Malik appreciated Canada’s prominent role in global climate discussions, pointing to its balanced policies on hydrocarbons, carbon sequestration, and clean energy.
He said Canada’s experience could offer important lessons for Pakistan as it works toward a greener, more resilient economic model.

The minister also briefed the envoy on Pakistan’s plans to develop Green Clusters to support innovation, youth-led enterprises, and green startup ecosystems.
Both sides reaffirmed their intention to maintain regular engagement and build a more structured framework for cooperation in the months ahead.
