# Pakistan Calls for Dialogue, Diplomacy to De-escalate Middle East Tensions

**United Nations (TDI):** Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, on Wednesday emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy, grounded in the principles of the UN Charter, remain the only viable route toward de-escalation and lasting peace in West Asia and the Middle East.

Speaking at the UN Security Council briefing on “The Situation in the Middle East,” the Pakistani envoy strongly condemned recent drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, including the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.

“Pakistan stands in complete solidarity with the governments and the brotherly peoples of the UAE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the wake of these heinous attacks and reiterates its full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all friendly countries of the region,” he said.

He further stated that attacks on nuclear installations are unacceptable and constitute a violation of international norms and law.

“Any targeting of nuclear facilities is a grave breach of international law, including international humanitarian law, the UN Charter, and the core principles of nuclear safety and security under the IAEA framework and relevant resolutions,” he added.

Ahmad warned that such incidents highlight the growing risks in the region and the urgent need to prevent further escalation.

“The unacceptable drone attacks against Saudi Arabia and the UAE’s Barakah Nuclear Power Plant serve as a reminder of the necessity to end ongoing tensions and confrontation in the region,” he said.

He urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that could further intensify instability.

“Dialogue and diplomacy, consistent with the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, remain the only viable path toward de-escalation and lasting peace and stability in West Asia and the Middle East,” he reiterated.

The Pakistani envoy also noted that Islamabad has been actively supporting diplomatic engagement between relevant parties.

“In this context, Pakistan has been making sincere efforts to facilitate diplomatic engagement between the concerned sides, and we are grateful to the parties, our partners, and the UN Secretary-General for supporting these efforts,” he said.

“Pakistan will continue to play its constructive role in facilitating dialogue for a meaningful and positive outcome,” he added.

The statement came after reports of a drone strike near an electrical facility close to the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the UAE, which caused no radiation leakage or injuries. Separately, Saudi Arabia reported intercepting multiple drones entering its airspace, later warning of possible operational responses to any future violations of its sovereignty.
