Islamabad, 9 October 2021 (TDI): Pakistan and Thailand are celebrating 70 years of their bilateral relations in 2021. The event was held virtually on this occasion on October 8 2021. The logo of Pakistan-Thailand diplomatic relations was also revealed by the Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Thailand, Don Pramudwinai. Both sides committed to enhance their bilateral relations in multiple areas.

The diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Thailand began in 1951, on October 10. Since then both countries have achieved several milestones.

Both countries share cultural linkages through Buddhism and Gandhara civilization. They signed a Cultural Exchange Program in 2005. Most vulnerable Aryawangso, one of the most revered Buddhist monks of Thailand, visited Pakistan in 2019.

Trade relations include the trade of major items such as aquatic animals, fisher products, and textile. Pakistan-Thailand Joint Economic Commission (JEC) was created in 1997 at the ministerial level. Exhibition ‘Pakistan Single Country’ was held in Bangkok in July 2018.

Both countries also cooperate in the education field. Pakistan and Thailand are two of the founding members of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). It was established in 1959 in Thailand.

They also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2021 on the defence cooperation. Joint Terrorism Exercise ‘Trisul’ was held in 2017 in Pakistan and in 2018 in Thailand. Exhibition ‘Pakistan Single Country’ was held in Bangkok in July 2018.
