# Pakistan, Iran Reiterate Economic Integration

**Tehran (TDI):** Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, called on the First Vice President of Iran, Dr. Mohammad Reza Aref, at the Presidency in Tehran.

During the meeting, the Minister reiterated Pakistan’s trade and economic vision and how that translates into its relations with Iran. He said that Pakistan is ready to increase exports of rice, corn, bananas, meat, and livestock to Iran.

He also spotlighted opportunities for Iran to import high-quality pesticides and other agricultural products from Pakistan. The Minister noted that more cooperation in agriculture and food security can become a catalyst for overall economic integration between the two countries.

Both sides also agreed that it is in the mutual interest of both to ensure food security in the region, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and address climate change challenges together.

Dr. Mohammad Reza Aref welcomed the proposals put forth by the Minister. He said that Iran values its strong relations with Pakistan and looks forward to achieving the bilateral trade target of 10 billion dollars.

He also said that the next session of the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) will be convened soon to take the progress forward.

Bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran have assumed more practical form since the visit of the Iranian President to Lahore and Islamabad, on August 2nd and 3rd. 12 MoUs were concluded during the visit, as Pakistan looks to manage it regional economic ties more effectively.
