Attari (TDI): India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has made a statement saying that the BSF Jawan, Purnam Kumar Shaw, who was in Pakistan’s custody after he accidentally crossed the border near Ferozepur, Punjab on April 23, 2025 has been returned.
The return took place this morning around 10:30 am at the Joint check post Attari, in a peaceful way and as per established protocols.
As per BSF’s statement, “Today BSF Jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw, who had been in the custody of Pakistan Rangers since 23 April 2025, was handed over to India at about 10:30 hours through the Joint Check Post Attari, Amritsar.”
April 23 was one day after the Pahalgam attack in Indian Occupied Kashmir, in which 26 people were killed. The border region was fragile and Pakistan had cause to take the jawan into custody, as mistrust and speculation was building up between the two countries, following the attack.

Yesterday, addressing a press briefing, Spokesperson of Pakistan’s Foreign Office categorically rejected the provocative and inflammatory assertions made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address on Monday, stating that his recent statement reflects a propensity to fabricate misleading narratives to justify aggression.

He stated that Pakistan remained committed to the recent ceasefire understanding with India and taking necessary measures towards de-escalation and regional stability.
He further said that this ceasefire is the result of the facilitation of several friendly nations, which contacted us with a message of defusing the tensions.
The portrayal of Pakistan as seeking a ceasefire in “despair and frustration” is yet another blatant lie, he added.
