Ottawa, 16 November 2021 (TDI): The Ambassador of Mongolia to Canada, Ariunbold Yadmaa met with the Acting Deputy Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Food of Canada, Kathleen Donohue. The two discussed cooperation in the agricultural sphere.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on enhancing food and agricultural cooperation between Mongolia and Canada. They also discussed the organizing of the third meeting of the Joint Committee between the respective Ministries of Agriculture. The Joint Committee was established in 2010.

The consultative mechanism under the ambit of the Joint Committee collaborates in the agriculture, food, and industry sectors. Such collaboration is integral to fortifying economic and trade relations between the two partners. Besides, it will efficiently implement the “Mongolian-Canadian Cooperation Roadmap for Comprehensive Partnership”.

Canada and Mongolia established diplomatic relations in November 1973. The embassy of Canada was established in Mongolia; in 2008. Likewise, Mongolia maintains an embassy in Ottawa. Moreover, it keeps an Honorary Consulate in Toronto, since 2002.

Canada has been supporting Mongolia after it formed a democratic government in 1991; after the disintegration of the Soviet Union. Canada supports Mongolia through the Canadian International Development Agency, International Development Research Centre, and several other non-governmental organizations.

The trade and economic ties between the two partners are also strong. Canada is the 2nd largest investor in Mongolia. Several Canadian mining and exploration firms have worked in Mongolia.
