Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi officially assumed the role of President of the Asian Cricket Council late on Thursday, succeeding Shammi Silva, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket, the regional cricket body announced in a statement.
In his statement, Naqvi said it is an honour to be appointed at the prestigious position.
“I am deeply honoured to assume the presidency of the ACC,” he said. “Asia is the heartbeat of world cricket, and I am dedicated to working with all member boards to accelerate the cricket’s growth and international influence.”
“Together, we will create new opportunities, foster greater cooperation, and take Asian cricket to unprecedented level,” he added.
Naqvi also took the opportunity to thank the outgoing ACC head for his leadership during his tenure.
Silva, reflecting on his time as president, acknowledged the considerable achievements under the ACC’s guidance.

“It has been a honor to serve as President of the ACC. The firm commitment of our member boards has been pivotal in elevating the body’s stature across the region,” Silva said.

Naqvi, who is also currently serving as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, has been leading the PCB since February last year.
The ACC’s officials press note welcomed Naqvi’s appointment.
“Naqvi has a visionary approach focused on unity, novelty, and strategic development, reinforcing Asia’s position as the epicentre of world cricket. Under his leadership, the Asian Cricket Council looks forward to a dynamic and cooperative future, with a greater commitment to growth programs, youth engagement, and elevating the global prominence of Asian cricket,” it said.
