Islamabad, 27 September 2021 (TDI): Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan congratulates Turkmenistan’s government and people on its 30th Independence Day.
Turkmenistan got independence from USSR in 1991. Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize it in December 1991. The two countries established formal diplomatic relations in May 1992. In October 1994, Pakistan paid a first-ever state visit to Turkmenistan under the leadership of Benazir Bhutto. Since then, many official visits have been exchanged between the two countries.
Recently, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi visited Ashgabat on 26 August 2021. He held meetings with the President and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan.
Pakistan and Turkmenistan enjoy cordial diplomatic relations. The two countries collaborate in diverse areas including economic, political, social, and cultural. The bilateral trade between the countries includes rice, mineral fuel, LPG, garments, wool, and vegetables. Moreover, both countries have signed various MOUs in the trade, energy, and tourism sectors.
