# Middle Eastern countries at COP27

Sharm el-Sheikh, 7 November 2022 (TDI): Leaders from around the world are taking part in the United Nations Climate Change Conference; [COP27](https://thediplomaticinsight.com/all-you-need-to-know-about-cop27/) taking place in Egypt.

The conference aims to seek ambition in the fight against global warming and climate change and will last till 18 November.

High-end experts, government officials, heads of state, and researchers from 190 countries will participate in the conference. Among them are the leader of Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) countries as well.

##### **Kingdom of Saudi Arabia**

The officials of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are taking part in COP27 with Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud addressing the first day of the conference.

It is to be noticed that the Kingdom will hold two high-profile green forums; Middle East Green Initiative and Saudi Green Initiative, in conjunction with COP27.

The theme of the forums is “from ambition to action” and it is aimed to represent the growing interest of regional countries to address the effects of climate change.

##### Qatar**

From Qatar’s side, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Faleh bin Nasser Al-Thani attended the conference while inspecting the Qatari pavilion.

He stressed that participation aims to present the country’s achievements in facing climate change in various sectors including oil, natural gas, energy, water, transportation, and building by mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.

The Minister was accompanied by the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Climate Change and Sustainability, Ambassador Badr Omar Ismail during the tour.

##### **United Arab Emirates (UAE)**

The President of UAE, Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is among the first speakers of COP27. The Foreign Ministry of UAE has declared climate action a top priority of the country.

The President is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister, Mansour bin Zayed, Minister of the Presidential Court, Hamdan bin Zayed, and Mariam Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment among others.

##### Iraq **

The President of Iraq, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid is participating in COP27. Almost 200 Iraqis representing government, youth, and civil society are attending the conference.

The President will also speak on the first day of the conference. It is to be noted that in Iraq, Climate Change accounts for a major environmental problem.

It has devastating impacts on the lives of all Iraqi citizens, especially the poorest and most vulnerable, and the urgency for action crosses all political, ethnic, social, and geographic lines.
