Paris, 7 October 2021 (TDI):  Today, Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, met with Chung Eui-Yong, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. They emphasized the similarities between Korea’s New Southern Policy (NSP) and France’s and the European Union’s Indo-Pacific policy. They agreed on the concept of collaboration within the context of specific Indo-Pacific initiatives.

Their meeting offered an opportunity to discuss the development of bilateral Franco-Korean relations.  The two ministers decided to look into new areas of collaboration in the future industrial and digital sectors. They discussed the situation on the Korean Peninsula and the two nations’ readiness to collaborate to contribute to regional stability. Achieving this goal will need expanding bilateral cooperation efforts in renewable energy.

The minister praised his Korean counterpart’s announcement of measures to ease travel between France and Korea in accordance with health regulations, with the goal of resuming passenger travel and strengthening bilateral economic and trade ties, in a context where Korean and French businesses can benefit from our countries’ stimulus measures.
