Mexican President Shares Balance on VI Summit of Heads of States of CELAC

Mexico City, 20 September 2021 (TDI): Mexican President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador shared the balance regarding the VI Summit of Heads of State, and the Government of the Community of Latin American and the Caribbean States (CELAC), on 18 September 2021.

President Obrador remarked that the meeting was fruitful despite the political differences due to the presence of Venezuelan President Maduro, whom many countries do not recognize to be legitimate.

The differences Obrador mentions are part of the democratic plurality and diversity, as he mentions that he has always supported political confrontation to be con-substantial to democracy. The meeting achieved vital agreements on the cooperation in the health sector so that there are no shortages of vaccines in the American countries to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. He also stated that the Latin and Caribbean nations should aspire to become a robust strategic block like European Union.
