Amsterdam, 7th September 2021 (TDI): Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Sigrid Kaag, met Yemen’s Foreign Minister, Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak. They discussed the situation in Yemen and acknowledged that there should be an end to the suffering of the Yemeni people. With the help of the international community, humanitarian and environmental disasters in Yemen must be prevented.
They stressed the importance of giving full access to the UN Group of Eminent International and Regional Experts. The UN Group of Eminent and Experts carries out a comprehensive examination of all alleged violations and abuses of international human rights and international law, which also includes possible gender discrimination. They also monitor and report on the situation on human rights in Yemen.
The Minister also discussed the worrying situation formed due to the abandoned SAFER oil tanker anchored at the coast of Yemen, which threatens the environment.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands affirms the Dutch support and involvement to achieve sustainable and inclusive peace in Yemen, which will bring prosperity to the region.
