Tashkent, 30 July 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi met the Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi on Friday.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The two Ministers discussed Afghanistan’s relations with China. Amir Khan also updated the Foreign Minister of China on the economic and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
Wang Yi praised the government’s measures to manage the economy of Afghanistan. He said that the reforms and policies taken up by the government of Afghanistan were commendable.
He also praised them for handling the situation well even during the imposed sanctions on the government and frozen reserves of Afghanistan’s banks.

Furthermore, the Chinese Foreign Minister assured that China would support Afghanistan in developing its agricultural products and help them reach self-sufficiency in the economy.
Additionally, he said that China was also ready to help Afghanistan’s farmers make a livelihood through a different profession if poppy cultivation is stopped.
Amir Muttaqi also expressed his gratitude for the aid provided by China to earthquake victims. He also expressed hope for implementing the developments made in the framework of economic reconstruction between the two states.

Concluding the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers promised that they would try to further expand their relations, especially in the political domains.
Afghanistan’s Agenda
Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister had continued his visit to Uzbekistan. Previously, he was there to attend the Tashkent Conference on Afghanistan.
Afghanistan is trying its best to gain help and support from neighboring as well as international states. The Foreign Ministers Council provided him a chance to meet the Foreign Ministers of states like Pakistan and China.

SCO Council of Foreign Ministers
The Council of Foreign Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It was a two-day meeting in which issues of regional and international dynamics were discussed.
The Foreign Ministers also discussed the expansion of the organization. During the meeting, admission procedure for states like Iran and Belarus was discussed. A number of states were also given observer and dialogue partner status.

Bilateral Meetings
The Council of Foreign Ministers gathered Ministers of different states in one place. This gave an opportunity for many states to hold their bilateral meetings. Foreign Ministers of many states met to discuss bilateral relations.
States like Pakistan, China, Russia, India, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan had sent their representatives to the Foreign Ministers Council.
