Maldivian State Minister addresses 60th Anniversary of NAM

Belgrade, 12 October 2021 (TDI): The Maldivian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel delivered a statement at the ongoing High-Level Commemorative Meeting. This meeting marked the 60th Anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

State Minister stated that despite its diversity NAM stands tall and united behind its common founding vision. It has proven to be a formidable player in shaping world politics since its inception.

State Minister reiterated that the Maldives takes great pride in being a member of the movement. Also, assured Male will remain firmly committed to continuing to be an active member. He urged the member states to work together, peacefully. And further called the member states to renew their vow to increase cooperation through various multilateral avenues. Moreover, emphasized the member states to work together with renewed motivation to recover from the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.

He stated that it is more vital than ever to embrace multilateralism and not retreat to isolationism. NAM must play a central role in this effort. The State Minister is being accompanied to the Commemorative Meeting by the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations, Thilmeeza along with the other Maldivian Officials.
