Maldivian Foreign Minister’s visit to Tokyo


Tokyo, 28 August 2021 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid expressed gratitude to Yoshihide Suga, Prime Minister of Japan, and Toshimitsu Motegi, Foreign Minister of Japan, for their wonderful hospitality during his visit to Tokyo, Japan.

Abdulla Shahid visited Japan upon the invitation of the its Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prime Minister Suga congratulated Abdulla Shahid on appointment as President-elect of 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Abdulla Shahid also extends his token of appreciation for the invitation. Both parties discussed various topics including UN Security Council Reforms, cooperation in Afghan situation, issues related to North Korea, Resolution of Abduction issues, health issues relating to Covid-19. At the end of meeting, both sides underscored discussion about “Tokyo Nutrition for Growth Summit 2021” in December.

In a nutshell, Abdulla Shahid stated that this visit includes exchanges on matters of mutual interests and priorities. Japan assured him full support for the Presidency of Hope .
