Male, 4 November 2021 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid sent greetings to the government and the people of Federated States of Micronesia, Palikir, and Pohnpei on their Independence Day.
Abdulla Shahid congratulated the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Micronesia, Kandhi A. Elieisar. Abdulla Shahid expressed his warm wishes for their independence. Moreover, he shared his commitment to strengthening the relations. Abdullah Shahid ensured his support to address the challenges that both states are facing as Small Island Developing States. The Federated States of Micronesia lies between the Philippines and Hawaii. It consists of more than 2,000 islands.
Both Maldives and Micronesia are Small Island Developing States, also known as SIDS. Both countries are facing many unique challenges. Both countries need massive investment in their infrastructures. The Maldives is helping the Federated States of Micronesia to fight challenges brought by climate change and to reach its development goals. Both countries are working to improve their infrastructure, water security, and climate resilience. Various ongoing projects in both states include developing climate-resilient infrastructure, management of ground and freshwater resources, coastal protection, wastewater management, and the development of effective drainage systems and low-carbon energy strategies.
As small States consist of various tiny islands both Maldives and Micronesia are facing similar challenges. Both countries are working together to counter the challenges brought by climate change. Abdulla Shahid ensured Maldives full support to the people and the government of Micronesia in all matters.
