Li Keqiang to attend 7th GMS Leaders Summit

Beijing, 8 September 2021 (TDI): Premier of the State Council, Li Kenqiang is expected to attend the 7th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Leaders Summit via video conferencing on 9th September. The summit is of great importance with a theme of “Renewed Strength to Face the Challenges of the New Decade” and aims for cooperative efforts by the regional states to battle the pandemic.

The GMS Economic Cooperation Program has launched 29 years ago and has since then fostered infrastructure developments, economic and political stability along with regional integration. China has been actively participating in the intensification of effectiveness in economic cooperation through GMS which is sponsored by Asian Development Bank in various sectors. The countries that are to take part in this summit are Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand.

Wang Wenbin, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in China told the press that he expects the summit to bear out fruitful outcomes to resume economic activity and revitalize prosperity among the states in the region.
