# Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov Arrives in Beijing on Official Visit

**Beijing (TDI):** Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for an official two-day visit to China. Lavrov is scheduled to hold talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his stay until Wednesday.

The two foreign ministers are expected to exchange views on bilateral relations and a wide range of international and regional issues. These include the situation in the Middle East and the Ukraine crisis.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the discussions will cover pressing global matters as well as cooperation between Moscow and Beijing.

The visit takes place against the backdrop of intensified diplomatic efforts in the Middle East. It follows the recent Iran-US peace talks held in Islamabad on April 11-12 and ongoing mediation to extend the current cease-fire.

On April 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The two leaders reviewed the latest developments in the region and the outcomes of the Islamabad negotiations.

Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for Russia’s principled position on de-escalation. Putin reaffirmed Moscow’s readiness to continue facilitating a political and diplomatic settlement aimed at establishing a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also spoke by phone with Lavrov. Araghchi warned that provocative actions by the United States in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz could have dangerous consequences for regional and global peace and security.
