Latvia Donated Covid-19 Pfizer Vaccine to Georgia

-

18 October 2021 (TDI): Latvia has donated 83,070 doses of the Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine to Georgia on Sunday.

While receiving the Pfizer vaccine donation, the Georgian Ambassador to Latvia Thea Maisuradze expressed her gratitude to Latvia for the support against Covid-19.

A few days earlier, the head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze said that Georgia would neither buy nor receive AstraZeneca Vaccine.

Reporting the reason, the head Gamkrelidze said that the death of the nurse after she received her vaccination reduced the demand for AstraZeneca in Georgia to the lowest. He also reported that 15000 AstraZeneca doses are at risk of spoiling due to the lack of demand.

The Incident of the nurse’s death also halted the vaccination process in Georgia.  The daily vaccination rate dropped to 7000 individuals from 20,000 individuals getting vaccines in a day.

Therefore, amid the rising covid-19 cases, to address the vaccination issue the government of Georgia is providing three types of vaccines including the Sinovac, Sinopharm, and Phizer.
