Kazakh Prime Minister meets his Russian Counterpart

Moscow, 3 November 2021 (TDI): Kazakh Prime Minister, Askar Mamin held talks with Russian Prime Minister, Mikhail Mishustin. This meeting took place as part of Askar Mamin’s working visit to Moscow.

The heads of government discussed the prospects to strengthen Kazakh-Russian cooperation. Moreover, they discussed cooperation in trade and industrial sector. Furthermore, issues of interaction in the format of the Eurasian Economic Union along with the joint measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 were considered.

Kazakh-Russia Bilateral Cooperation

Kazakhstan and Russia are both founding members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization along with the Collective Security Treaty Organization. They are also part of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council and the Commonwealth of Independent States. The two countries also founded the Eurasian Economic Union with Belarus.

Economic Cooperation between Kazak-Russian Federation

Askar Mamin noted that the high dynamics of the development of trade and economic relations. The trade turnover between the countries increased by 27% this year, $14.7 billion. By the end of 2021, the parties intend to bring this figure to $20 billion. In the first half of 2021, the volume of direct investments of the Russian Federation in the Kazakh economy increased by 17%. More than 10 thousand enterprises with the participation of Russian capital operate in Kazakhstan.

Industrial and Transport Cooperation

In the field of industrial cooperation, 8 joint large projects worth $1.7 billion are being implemented. The interlocutors also discussed issues of advanced development of transport infrastructure. It will strengthen the transit potential of the two countries along with the regional transport interconnection.

Russian-Kazakh relations are the most successful ties between any two countries in the post-Soviet era.  Their relations will continue to develop in all directions. Furthermore, the two countries will continue mutual economic integration to strengthen Nursultan-Moscow ties.
