Tokyo, 24 November 2021 (TDI): Japan donated an additional 1.5 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to Vietnam, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today.

The vaccine support will add to the earlier contributions from Japan under vaccine diplomacy, reaching the total number to 5.6 million.

The development came during the Vietnamese Premier’s visit to Japan. Whilst his stay in the country, he met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, Hosoda Hiroyuki, in Tokyo today.

During the meeting with the Speaker, Pham Minh Chin congratulated the latter over his victory in the election for Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan. He also stressed the need for exchanges and contacts between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Prime Minister Pham urged the Japanese House of Representatives to enhance cooperation between the two states. He underscored joint cooperation in combating the Covid-19 pandemic and other issues such as connectivity, and post-pandemic recovery.

Vietnam has also shown commitment to boost up an extensive strategic partnership with Japan. This will lead to achieving peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region.

Meeting with Head of the House of Councilors

Later today, Vietnam’s Prime Minister also held talks with the President of the House of Councilors of Japan, Santo Akiko.

During the meeting, he explained Vietnam’s vision for 2030 and 2045 and the development goals. The Premier also assured Santo Akiko about his country’s independent, self-resilient, and peace-seeking Foreign Policy.

Earlier, he also held talks with the Chairman of the Japanese Communist Party (JCP) Kazuo Shii. Pham Minh Chin is on a 4-day official tour to Japan. He will hold meetings with the senior leadership of Japan, during his visit.
