Dubai/Tokyo, 14 September 2022 (TDI): The Prime Minister of Japan, Kishida Fumio held a telephonic conversation with the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Tuesday.

Both sides highlighted bilateral ties between Japan and UAE in the conversation held on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister of Japan highlighted that Japan and UAE have been working closely for 50 years. Therefore, the year 2022 is of utmost importance because it celebrates the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of bilateral relations between both states.
During the conversation, both dignitaries discussed issues of regional and international dynamics. Moreover, both sides also confirmed to cooperate for their terms in the United Nations Security Council in 2023.

Discussion on Former Prime Minister of Japan
Prime Minister Kishida expressed his appreciation for the condolence message from the President of UAE on the passing of former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.
During this discussion, he highlighted that UAE is a strategic partner for Japan. Consequently, he hoped to foster close ties with UAE in the future. As a response, President Sheikh Mohamed stated that the demise of former Prime Minister Abe was heartbreaking.
He added that UAE stands in solidarity with Japan for the great loss. Consequently, he also expressed his renewed hopes for strengthening bilateral relations with Japan.
The Former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe died on 8th July after he was shot at a political campaign event. He was giving a speech for a political candidate at a road junction in the southern city of Nara when the attack happened.
His death shocked the world and many countries stepped forward to express their condolences to the officials of Japan.

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also expressed his sincere condolences to the Japanese people and the bereaved family over the passing of the former Japanese Prime Minister.
In a statement, Sheikh Mohamed highlighted that Shinzo Abe served his nation with honor and contributed to strengthening the fruitful relations between the UAE and Japan.
Discussion on crude oil
During their conversation, both sides also highlighted Japan and UAE’s cooperation for crude oil. The Prime Minister of Japan expressed his gratitude for the UAE’s stable supply of crude oil to Japan.
Additionally, both leaders confirmed to enhance cooperation between Japan and the UAE towards the stabilization of the international oil market.
Both emphasized that their cooperation will help in further promoting realistic energy transition and climate change countermeasures for decarbonized society.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister said that Japan highly values UAE’s leadership in realizing net zero by 2050. As a response, the President of UAE thanked Japan for its support.
Japan-UAE Relations
Diplomatic relations between the two states were established at the onset of the UAE’s independence in December 1971. Since then, both countries have enjoyed friendly ties with each other.
The exchange between Japan and UAE includes crude oil, natural gas, cars, and electronics items. Additionally, both countries are also cooperating to achieve the net zero carbon emissions goal by 2050.
