ISLAMABAD: In a significant display of diplomatic cooperation and strategic dialogue, the Arms Control and Disarmament Centre (ACDC) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) hosted a high-profile Chinese delegation.
The delegation was led by Sun Xiaobo, Director General of the Department of Arms Control, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and included Xie Xinxing and Xiao Yue, Deputy Division Directors, along with Jiang Yingbo, Second Secretary of the Department of Arms Control, MFA. Xu Hangtian, Minister Counsellor, and Wanf YiQiu, Third Secretary from the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad were also also attended the meeting, said a press release.
The meeting brought together distinguished diplomats, academics, and experts to discuss pressing global security issues and the evolving dynamics of arms control.
The session was marked by a rich exchange of views, reflecting the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.
Participants explored a wide array of critical topics, including global trends and challenges in arms control and disarmament, the impact of emerging technologies, and the management of risks associated with artificial intelligence.
Key issues such as the militarization of outer space, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and the increased risk of nuclear confrontation were also addressed.
Moreover, discussions covered the implications of the deepening Indo-US strategic partnership, regional security dynamics, and China’s Global Security Initiative.
The dialogue underscored the shared perspectives and strategic trust between Pakistan and China on global security matters.
The event was attended by a distinguished roster of former diplomats, security practitioners, academics, and think-tank experts, including Ambassador Zamir Akram, Ambassador Masood Khalid, Ambassador Tehmina Janjua, and several other prominent figures from the security and academic communities.

Moderated by Malik Qasim Mustafa, Director of ACDC, the session highlighted the mutual commitment to addressing global security challenges and enhancing bilateral cooperation.

In recognition of the fruitful dialogue and ongoing strategic partnership, Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, Chairman of the Board of Governors at ISSI, presented the ISSI shield to the Chinese delegation, symbolizing the enduring bond and collaborative spirit between the two nations.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the shared goals and strategic alignment between Pakistan and China, setting the stage for continued collaboration in addressing global security challenges.
