# Israel Must Help Palestinians After Gaza Conflict: Kushner

**Washington (TDI):** Israel must play a constructive role in improving the lives of Palestinians if it hopes to achieve deeper regional integration once the Gaza conflict has ended, US envoy Jared Kushner said on Sunday.

In an interview with CBS News, Kushner, who has been engaged in efforts to sustain the fragile truce, urged Israeli leaders to look beyond the war. “The key message we’ve shared with Israel’s leadership is this: now that the fighting has stopped, if Israel truly wants to be part of the broader Middle East, it must find a way to help the Palestinian people thrive,” he said.

Kushner’s remarks came just hours before Israeli forces launched new strikes on Gaza, accusing Hamas of breaching the ceasefire by targeting Israeli troops. The US envoy, who is also President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, played a central role in brokering the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and several Arab states during Trump’s first term.

Acknowledging the continuing tensions, Kushner described the current situation as “very difficult,” but added that he remains focused on promoting “joint security and economic opportunity” to allow both Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side peacefully.

On Monday, Kushner returned to Israel with Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy, for meetings with senior Israeli officials, part of ongoing discussions on maintaining the ceasefire and outlining Gaza’s postwar roadmap.

Reflecting on the situation in Gaza since the October 10 truce took effect, Kushner said Hamas was acting as expected for “a terrorist organization, trying to regroup and reclaim ground.”

He stressed, however, that Hamas could lose influence if “a viable alternative leadership structure” is established in Gaza. “If that happens, Hamas will fail, and Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel,” he added.

When asked about the possibility of an independent Palestinian state, recognized by most countries but still opposed by Israel and the United States, Kushner replied that it was “too early to tell.”
