New York, 23 September 2021 (TDI): While addressing the Council of Foreign Relations Organization (CFR), the Prime Minister of Ireland Micheál Martin discussed Ireland’s role on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), peace, gender equality, and climate change in New York.
President Martin discussed the role of Ireland in promoting peace in the world. He further highlighted the challenges which Ireland has to face due to extreme climate change. The President mentioned the role of Ireland on the multilateralism and Brexit issue.
Moreover, Ireland’s President discussed gender equality. One of the reports published by Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs highlighted the contribution of Ireland to gender equality. According to that, in 2019 around 76% of the bilateral aid of the country is contributed to gender equality. Ireland, because of its ODA which contributes to reaching gender equality, ranked second, only behind Sweden.
The country remains strongly dedicated to the implementation of UNSC resolution 1325 on women, peace, and security. Moreover, the President of Ireland, Micheál Martin tweeted on his account on Wednesday, 22 September that “Ireland is dedicated to the Women right, gender equality, Peace and Security Agenda. Further, he said that the participation of women is not a request, it is their right”.
