Brussels, 8 November 2021 (TDI): The Ambassador of Iraq to Brussels, Sadiq Al-Rikabi, met with Deputy Secretary-General of the European Union’s External Action Department, Enrique Mora, on Saturday. The meeting took place at the European Union’s headquarters in Brussels.

The Deputy Head of Iraq’s Mission in Brussels, Fadel Rahim, was also present in the meeting. The officials exchanged views on areas of mutual interest, particularly the latest political developments at the regional and international levels.
Enrique Mora lauded Iraq for assisting the European Union’s mission of alleviating conflicts and crises in the Middle East. In this regard, he also stressed the need for future consultations between Iraq and the European Union.
Ambassador Al-Rikabi emphasized the importance of strengthening Iraq’s cooperation and bilateral trade with the European Union. He also commended the actions of Iraqi and EU leaders aiming to ease tensions in the Middle East and activate cooperation between the involved parties.
Iraq’s recent parliamentary elections and the procedure for the Independent Electoral Commission were also discussed in the political setting. The procedure aims to finalize the consideration of the appeals or objections submitted by the political forces.
In addition, the movement organized by Iraq’s political forces to form a new government in compliance with the Republic’s Constitution was also considered during the meeting.
