# Iranian Strike Hits Oil Tanker Off Qatar Amid Regional Tensions

**Doha (TDI):** An oil tanker linked to QatarEnergy was struck by an Iranian cruise missile in Qatari waters on Wednesday, according to the Qatar Ministry of Defense.

Officials said three missiles were launched from Iran toward Qatar. Two were successfully intercepted, while the third hit the Aqua 1 fuel tanker. Despite the impact, no casualties were reported.

The vessel was located roughly 17 nautical miles north of Ras Laffan Industrial City, home to the world’s largest gas processing facility. Authorities confirmed that the damage was limited to areas above the waterline, with no environmental harm detected, according to both QatarEnergy and the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations.

The incident comes amid rising threats to maritime activity in the region, as tensions linked to the US-Israel conflict with Iran continue to escalate. Recent weeks have seen a surge in attacks targeting energy infrastructure and commercial shipping routes across the Gulf.

Iran has intensified strikes on oil and gas facilities in response to earlier attacks on its own energy infrastructure. The ongoing conflict has already disrupted a significant portion of Qatar’s liquefied natural gas exports, raising concerns about supply stability in key markets across Europe and Asia.

Regional security risks remain high, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor through which a substantial share of the world’s oil and LNG shipments pass. There are growing fears that continued hostilities could further disrupt traffic through this vital route.

On the diplomatic front, indirect communication between Washington and Tehran is ongoing. However, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi clarified that recent exchanges through intermediaries should not be interpreted as formal negotiations.

The situation underscores the fragile security environment in the Gulf, where military escalation, energy concerns, and diplomatic efforts are unfolding simultaneously.
