# International Women’s Day Message: Alexandra Berg von Linde, Ambassador of Sweden to Pakistan

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the achievements of women and girls everywhere, while reaffirming our shared responsibility to advance gender equality. This year’s theme, *“For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”*, reminds us that progress must be inclusive, leaving no one behind.

Sweden is a global leader in gender equality, consistently ranking at the top of international indices. We work with gender equality domestically, but also as a cornerstone of our foreign policy, our multilateral engagement and our commitment to human rights. Because we firmly believe that equal rights, representation, and opportunities for women and girls are essential for sustainable development, peaceful societies, and strong democracies. When women participate fully in political life, in the economy, in climate action, and in peace processes, societies thrive.

In Pakistan, I am encouraged to see women leading in public service, business, academia, media, and civil society. At the same time, we must continue to address the structural barriers that limit equal access to education, economic participation, and decision-making. Empowerment always begins with education and opportunity – but it is sustained by laws, institutions, and social norms that uphold dignity and equality.

Finally, gender equality is not a women’s issue. Men and boys play a transformative role in challenging stereotypes, promoting respectful dialogue, and becoming allies for equality. Real change happens when we work together.

The path forward demands action by everyone to ensure that every woman and girl lives free from discrimination, leads with confidence, and contributes to our shared future.
