# International condemnation of attack on former Prime Minister Imran Khan

Beijing, 3 November 2022 (TDI): Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, was shot in the shin on Thursday during his protest.

The attack on Imran Khan is nationally and internationally condemned. On this incident, diplomats and foreign offices of different countries declared their statements.

Among those who condemned the attack on Imran Khan are Canada, Saudi Arabia, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Qatar, the United Nations, and more actors.

The Canadian Prime Minister vehemently condemns the attack on Imran Khan and his followers.

He called this act totally unacceptable and said that it has no place in our culture, in politics, or in any democracy. He also wished Imran and everyone else who was hurt today a quick recovery.

According to UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemns the attack on former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and hopes it does not worsen the situation in the country.

Moreover, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia strongly condemns and denounces the attempted assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Lord Ahmad, the UK’s Minister of State for Foreign Commonwealth and Development Affairs and the PM’s Special Envoy for Preventing Sexual Violence, also tweeted, “Deeply shocked to hear of the attack on Imran Khan. A thriving democracy is key to an inclusive and progressive society. Violence is never the answer. Sending my thoughts and prayers to Imran and his family at this time.”

James Cleverly, the UK’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs, also penned down his concerns for Imran Khan and the affected.

The General Secretariat underlined the OIC’s resolute stance against all kinds of violence, extremism, and terrorism, regardless of their forms or motivations.

Hence, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) General Secretariat has strongly condemned the assassination attempt on the former Prime Minister.

Alfred Grannas, the German ambassador to Pakistan, also expressed his concerns and condemned the attack on Imran Khan.

The United States also denounced the gun attack on former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday, urging all parties in the South Asian country to remain calm.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said at a briefing that the United States strongly condemns the assassination attempt on Imran Khan and his followers and wishes all those affected a speedy recovery.

Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, also denounced the violent attack on Imran Khan’s protest.

Former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Waheed, also condemned the attack on the former Prime Minister. He said that a stable Pakistan is needed for a strong region.

Zac Goldsmith, Minister of State for Asia, Energy, Climate, and the Environment of the United Kingdom, also shared news and his remarks on the incident and wished him a speedy recovery.
