# India, China to Resume Direct Flights, Boost Trade Links

**New Delhi (TDI):** India and China agreed on Tuesday to restart direct passenger flights and boost economic ties, signaling a cautious thaw in relations that soured after their deadly 2020 border clash.

The agreement was announced at the close of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s two-day trip to New Delhi, where he met National Security Adviser Ajit Doval for the 24th round of border talks.

Both sides discussed troop withdrawals along the Himalayan frontier, long-running boundary disputes, and the need to manage tensions.

Direct flights between the two neighbors have been suspended since the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020.

While no restart date was announced, officials said the resumption would be accompanied by efforts to ease visa procedures and reopen border trade at three designated crossings.

The Indian foreign ministry said the two countries would also seek to step up trade and investment flows.

Beijing, in a separate statement, confirmed that a new working group would be created to coordinate on boundary affairs, with negotiations extended to cover the eastern and middle sectors.

Talks on the western sector are expected “as soon as possible.” China also said the next round of meetings would take place in 2026.

“Stable and constructive ties between India and China will contribute greatly to regional and global peace,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on X after meeting Wang Yi.

Modi is due to travel to China later this month for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, his first visit there in over seven years.
