# IAEA Chief Warns Strikes Near Iran’s Bushehr Plant Pose Serious Nuclear Risk

**Vienna (TDI):** The head of the UN nuclear watchdog has warned that strikes near Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Iran pose a serious risk to nuclear safety and must be halted immediately.

Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said attacks in the vicinity of the facility could trigger a severe radiological incident with consequences for both Iran and the wider region.

The Bushehr plant, located in southern Iran and operating a 1,000-megawatt reactor, has reportedly been struck multiple times since the onset of the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel. Iranian state media reported the latest strike occurred on Saturday.

Grossi stated that satellite imagery reviewed by the IAEA confirmed the impact of the latest strike, though the main infrastructure of the nuclear plant itself remained undamaged. He added that one of the strikes landed as close as 75 meters from the plant’s perimeter.

“A nuclear facility and the surrounding area must never be targeted,” Grossi emphasized, reiterating long-standing international warnings about the risks of military activity near nuclear installations.

The warning comes amid continued escalation in the region, with repeated strikes contributing to heightened global concern over the potential for a nuclear or environmental incident. The proximity of attacks to critical infrastructure has raised alarms among international observers and safety experts.
