# German Ambassador Lauds KP’s Billion Tree Afforestation Support Project

**Islamabad (TDI):** In one of the first few engagements since presenting credentials, the new German Ambassador to Pakistan called on the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) – the province very badly hit by the ongoing heavy rains and subsequent flooding.

The meeting took place at the KPK House in the capital city and the two were also joined by MNA Faisal Amin Gandapur, officials from the Forest Department, and staff from the German Embassy.

The work of the German welfare organizations in KP province came under discussion as the CM highlighted the areas where the province can utilize assistance and capacity building.

He highlighted the work undertaken by the provincial government to save the forest cover and drew attention to areas in which more technical help is required to minimize the impact of climate change.

The CM told the Ambassador that small dams’ projects have been initiated to deal with the issue of flooding in the future and said that this is one such area where German organizations can help the province.

German Ambassador, Ina Lepel, mentioned that the German Government is involved in various projects in KP spanning health, environment, energy, vocational training, governance, and economic prosperity.

These projects are delivered on ground by German organizations which have both expertise and local knowledge. She said that KP’s Billion Tree Afforestation Support Project (BTASP) is a great initiative to tackle the challenges posed by climate change.

She also acknowledged that there is room for expanding cooperation with the provincial government in preservation of forests and overall environment.

The Ambassador also planted a tree in the garden of the KPK House and, in a post on social media app X, wrote: “The project (BTASP) fosters sustainable forests & livelihoods through community-led restoration.”
