Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries issues joint statement

Tehran, 28 October 2021 (TDI): The Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring states met in Tehran, the capital of Iran. The meeting took place on Wednesday, 27 October 2021.

Foreign Ministers of Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Russia attended the meeting. The meeting started with the speech of Vice President of Iran Mohammad Mokhber on the recent developments in Afghanistan. The United Nations Secretary-General also shared his message through a video link.

After that, the Foreign Ministers of the neighboring states of Afghanistan delivered speeches on the situation of Afghanistan. They talked about their concerning matters related to Afghanistan. The meeting then ended with the approval of the ministerial joint statement.

Respect for Sovereignty of Afghanistan

The Foreign Ministers in the joint statement expressed their support for the national sovereignty, political independence, unity and territorial integrity of Afghanistan. They also agreed on the policy of non-interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs. In the joint ministerial statement, they urged the international community to stay committed to the rebuilding of Afghanistan.

Respect for International Law

They said international law should be respected in the situation of Afghanistan. The people of Afghanistan have the legitimate right to decide the future of their country. The Foreign Ministers emphasized the need for stability in Afghanistan to create durable peace and prosperity in the region.

Cooperation on Humanitarian Crisis in Afghanistan

They also discussed the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. The socio-economic condition of Afghanistan urges the international community to support the people of Afghanistan. The international community should provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan to protect it from possible economic collapse.

They also underlined the role of neighboring states of Afghanistan to create durable peace in Afghanistan. They called on the international community to assist Afghanistan in the refugee crisis and the Coronavirus pandemic’s challenges to Afghanistan.

Collaboration to curb terrorism

The Foreign Ministers urged Afghan authorities to not allow terrorists to use Afghan land for terrorist activities. They also urged the Afghan relevant authorities to respect international law and especially human rights.

The ministers urged for a dialogue between the special envoys on Afghanistan affairs and Afghan authorities to commence cooperation. They called on the international community to positively engage and commit to the situation in Afghanistan.

3rd round conference of Foreign Ministers-2022

The Foreign Ministers congratulated Iran on hosting the second round of the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring states. They agreed on holding the third round of debate in China in 2022.

While Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi chaired the first meeting on September 8. The meeting is aimed at the cooperation of Afghanistan’s neighboring states to create durable peace and stability in Afghanistan.
