New York, 23 September 2021 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi held meeting with Commissioner of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi on the sidelines of the 76th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Filippo Grandi previously served as the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief, UN Agency for Palestine Refugees and United Nations Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood shared with Filippo Grandi, Pakistan’s commitment towards humanitarian causes. He also highlighted that Pakistan has been hosting over three million afghan refugees. He suggested, financial support to host countries on the basis of international burden and responsibility sharing is immensely significant.
Pakistan also remains at the forefront in providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan, in providing safe evacuation of diplomats and officials of several international organizations and governments. Foreign minister Shah Mahmood reiterated Pakistan’s support for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
