Islamabad, 19 October 2021 (TDI): Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Dr. Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Iran’s Foreign Minister, exchanged views on Afghanistan’s security situation via telephone.

Foreign Minister Dr. Abdollahian invited FM Qureshi to the second ministerial meeting in Afghanistan with neighboring nations. It will hold next week in Tehran. Moreover, Iran fully supports Pakistan’s efforts to develop a regional approach for Afghanistan.

Considering Afghanistan’s current economic conditions, a constant international commitment is crucial, Qureshi added. He stressed the importance of Afghanistan having close coordination in order to help it on its way to stability, peace, and development.

He expressed hope that international collaboration would improve the delivery of humanitarian aid urgently in Afghanistan in light of the approaching winter season. This will also help to ensure economic stability.

Therefore, Qureshi acknowledged his Iranian counterpart for inviting him to the meeting and expressed anticipation that this meeting will give regional approaches to Afghanistan an additional boost.

The first Ministerial meeting of the Afghan neighboring nations took place online on the 8th of September 2021, in which foreign ministers of different countries such as Pakistan, Iran, China, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan took part where the joint declaration was unanimously approved.
