Address by Syria’s Foreign Minister
During his address, Fayssal Mekdad spoke about the surge in terrorism, climatic disasters, and human rights violations. He also reassured Syria’s commitment to favor dialogue for national stability.
Fayssal Mekdad said, “Since the crisis in 2011, Syria has favored dialogue by decreeing amnesty for terrorist crimes. It is done to support national reconciliation and stability. This effort will be continued as it has enabled many Syrians to return to normal life.”
He further expressed appreciation for the Astana Format meeting. He asked the attendees of that meeting to take action according to the conclusions of that meeting. Fayssal Mekdad also appreciated the efforts of the Syrian Constitutional Committee.
While addressing the increasing human rights violations in Syria, Foreign Minister asked for united efforts. He stressed that any illegal military presence in Syria goes against the country’s sovereignty.
Fayssal Mekdad also urged all nations to fight against terrorism alongside the Syrian Government following international law.
While appreciating the Syrian people for their resilience he stated, “ The efforts to break the will of its people has failed.” He added that the idea of isolating Syria from the world can never shape into reality.
The unfortunate case of Syria and other countries, where access to food, fuel, medications, and other necessities are being undermined makes it clear that the only responsible decision would be to establish a multipolar world order where the UN Charter guides everyone.”
