Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi met NATO Secretary General In Brussels on Tuesday.

Brussels, 8 December 2021 (TDI): On 7 December 2021, Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi met with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg at NATO headquarters, Brussels.

While speaking with NATO Secretary, Shah Mehmood Qureshi discussed the current situation of Afghanistan. Foreign Minister mentioned the significance of international cooperation to maintain security and bring peace to Afghanistan.

Humanitarian situation

Additionally, he talked about the refugee crisis in Afghanistan and the need for the international community to collectively deal with the jaws of terrorism and the humanitarian crisis. As well, the Foreign Minister urged the global community to make efforts to prevent the growing paralysis of humanity in the region. Furthermore, to not let terrorism and drugs again pollute the social and cultural environment of Afghanistan.

The two officials further discussed the diversified aspects of bilateral cooperation, savvy diplomacy, and regional situation. Shah Mehmood Qureshi mentioned that the foreign policy of Pakistan primarily focuses on peaceful neighborhoods and furthers the desire for peace and stability in the entire South Asian region.

While mentioning the existing issues of the time, he mentioned that Pakistan is desirous of peaceful resolution of Kashmir Saga and to put violence in the region to rest. The Foreign Minister highlighted that Pakistan has played a vital role to maintain peace and stability in Afghanistan and the prevailing clouds of crisis are worrisome for the entire globe. He urged the international community to provide urgent and timely humanitarian and economic assistance to Afghanistan for peace and security.

Pakistan’s cooperation with NATO

The Foreign Minister talked about high-level exchanges between Pakistan and Belgium have played a significant role in strengthening bilateral ties and mutual cooperation. Pakistan and Belgium enjoy cordial and friendly relations based on shared values of democracy, pluralism, mutual respect, and close cooperation

The Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi is on an official visit to Brussels from December 6 to 8. The foreign minister will have an exchange of views with Belgium’s lawmakers and members of the European Parliament.
