Islamabad, 31 August 2021 (TDI): On August 31, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas had a third meeting this year with his Pakistani counterpart Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi on his second visit to Pakistan. As the two countries are celebrating their 70-year long ties, this meeting shows their determination to further deepen it. In order to enhance bilateral relations, the Foreign Ministers of the two countries are increasing their coordination for regional peace.

The two leaders had a discussion on the unfolding situation in Afghanistan. They expressed severe condemnation over the heinous terrorist attack by ISIS-K in the Afghan capital near Kabul airport. Foreign Minister Qureshi said that Kabul and Islamabad continued suffering the most, owing to the 40-year chaos. Therefore, peace and stability in Afghanistan are indispensable for Pakistan and regional peace.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi told his German counterpart about Islamabad’s take on the neighboring development, which is to facilitate an all-inclusive political setup in Afghanistan. He added Islamabad respects Kabul’s sovereignty and wishes its prosperity. Islamabad believes in the protection of Afghan people and their rights. He also suggested that the world community must not abandon Afghans; They must engage in humanitarian actions.

Foreign Minister Qureshi further added that Islamabad assisted the evacuation of people of different countries, the European Union, and international organizations from Afghanistan. Among them, 10,000 personnel belonged to international organizations.

The Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi also announced the soon coming inauguration of the Consulate General of Pakistan in Munich and the establishment of the Iqbal-Goethe Center in Heidelberg in the wake of the 70-year friendship between the two countries. This is because Pakistan values its long-lasting ties with Germany.
