Islamabad (TDI): Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb met with the World Bank’s Country Director, Najy Benhassine, and his delegation at the Finance Division on Tuesday.
Senior officials, including the Finance Secretary, were also present during the discussions.
The finance minister underscored the significance of Pakistan’s partnership with the World Bank in advancing the country’s economic reform agenda and developmental goals.
He acknowledged the Bank’s continued financial and technical assistance in various sectors and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, sustainable growth, and efficient resource management.

The discussions covered a range of areas, including the establishment of a transparent tax policy framework aimed at improving revenue mobilization and compliance while ensuring equitable taxation.
The World Bank team also proposed technical assistance for modernizing the budget-making process, enhancing transparency in public financial management, and strengthening debt management to mitigate fiscal risks.
Other topics included reforms in the agricultural income tax regime, harmonization of the GST in collaboration with provinces, and the activation of the National Tax Council to facilitate coordination.

Benhassine lauded Pakistan’s reform initiatives and assured the World Bank’s continued support in addressing economic challenges and achieving developmental objectives.
The finance minister expressed gratitude for the World Bank’s assistance and reiterated the government’s resolve to implement reforms aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth.
