New York, 7 October 2021 (TDI): Executive Director of UN Women, Sima Bahous was officially sworn into office by Secretary-General of the UN, António Guterres. Her work is dedicated to gender equality and women’s empowerment all over the world. She is a champion for women, gender equality, and youth empowerment.

UN Women organization published the news on their website on Wednesday, 6 October 2021. They shared that during a ceremony which was presided over by the UN Secretary-General in New York, Sima Bahous of Jordan took the oath of office as the Executive Director of UN Women. This appointment was officially announced on 3 September 2021, after consultation with the Member States and the Executive Board of the UN Entity and Empowerment of Women (UN Women).

She is a keen advocate for quality education, poverty alleviation, and inclusive governance. Furthermore, she possesses around 35 years of leadership experience at the national and international levels. Her expertise includes women empowerment, gender discrimination, and supporting sustainable socio-economic development towards the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
