Brussels, 31 July 2022 (TDI): The Cohesion Policy of the EU in 2021-2027 will provide €31.5 billion to Romania. This will promote the economic, social, and territorial cohesion of its regions and its green and digital transition.

Significance for Romania
The Cohesion Policy will favor Romania in many ways because the EU will invest the money in different projects. These funds will also support Romania in terms of its economy to develop it and make it highly competitive.
An amount of €6.75 billion is also there to give a boost to the Green Economy. This investment will minimize carbon emissions, enhance environmental infrastructure, and will adopt risk management measures.
A handful of investments of about €2.3 billion will modernize the healthcare system. The transport system, with funds comprising €7.3 billion, will provide Romania with more sustainable modes of transport.
The Policy also contains funds worth €7.3 billion to create employment opportunities, especially for youth. This policy will also help in improving the quality of education. A huge amount worth €3.3 billion is also there to deal with the problem of poverty.
€3.5 billion will be there to develop social entrepreneurship and will improve access to early childhood education. Moreover, €2.3 billion will be there to improve the energy performance of residential and public buildings.
This will also develop renewable energy sources along with smart energy systems. In the policy, €2.34 billion is also there to improve the quality of water. There are also steps for the reusing and recycling of waste materials.
An amount worth €2.14 billion from the Just Transition Fund (JTF) is there to develop the Romanian regions most negatively affected by the phasing out of lignite and coal.
European Regional and Development Fund (ERDF) will support Romania with €4.33 billion in its innovative and smart economic transformation.
European Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) will support sustainable fisheries and aquaculture with a budget of €162.5 million.
