Cairo: June 21, 2021- (TDI): On Sunday European Union’s special representative to the middle east peace process, Sven Koopmans met Egypt’s foreign minister Sameh Shoukry in Cairo. The secretary-general of the Arab league Aboul Gheit and the European union’s ambassador to Egypt Christian Berger were also present in the meeting.
Both the parties had a detailed conversation on the peace in the region by solving the Israel –Palestine conflict. Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry also underlined his desire for the European Union’s (EU) involvement in helping the Palestinian cause at all levels, to continue.
Shoukry reaffirmed Egypt’s desire to work with the EU in the coming months to advance the Middle East peace process.
Koopmans also praised Egypt’s participation in assisting Middle East peace efforts, which resulted in a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. He also highlighted the importance of the Quartet to achieve regional peace and security. The UN, USA, EU, and Russia form up the Madrid quartet which is involved in mediating the peace process between the Israeli and Palestinian sides.
