Ethiopia Closes It’s Embassy in Algeria

-

Addis Ababa, 3 September 2021(TDI): The Ethiopian government announced on Thursday that it had closed its embassy in Algeria as part of a cost-cutting measure for its foreign policy obligations.

According to the Ethiopian embassy in Algeria, the economic crisis is largely the result of the Covid-19 pandemic’s negative consequences. As per the reports, the economic crisis has been exacerbated by the negative consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic since early 2020. The recent decision, according to the Ethiopian embassy, is part of the country’s plan to implement new reforms aimed at establishing efficient diplomatic representation around the world.

On July 5, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed told Ethiopian legislators that the country would close numerous embassies and headquarters to save money, with the majority of diplomats serving as non-resident ambassadors. Prime Minister Abiy also stated that Ethiopia should not currently have 60 or so embassies and consulates. Instead of flinging US dollars around, at least 30 embassies should be closed. The ambassadors, on the other hand, should be present.
